Review of the album “Reopening the Gates” by Omen
“Reopening the Gates” is the seventh album from the iconic heavy metal band Omen. On Metal Blade Records they had one of the more successful careers for an independent heavy metal band in the 1980s, this being the days before indie had become a household term for the terminally cool and underground rock scenes.
Omen had broken up as a band after six Metal Blade releases, but in 1997 the band was reformed under the original founder and guitarist Kenny Powell. He took the name Omen for his own reincarnation of the heavy metal band again. With a new lineup of band members including vocals from his Powell’s son Greg, they created “Reopening the Gates”.
The album was released on Massacre Records and unfortunately was not received as well by fans as the past Omen catalog. It had more of a 1990s flair for alternative metal in production and was less likened to the Omen fans once flocked to the mosh pits for.
In any case, Omen continued to have a career on past “Reopening the Gates” and they live on in heavy metal history to this day. Fans will want to give “Reopening the Gates” a listen for posterity. You thought this was good? Brace yourself: Warpaint
